The 10th Data Science Symposium (DSS) will take place on-site in Geesthacht, on 3rd and 4th of September 2025. This time it is organized by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon.
Established in 2017, this is part of a joint series of symposia hosted by AWI, GEOMAR and Hereon. As a venue for the diverse community of data enthusiasts in the Earth and Environment sector in Helmholtz, it aims at building bridges between science methods, science applications, and infrastructure developments.
We invite everyone in Science: Master Students, PhDs, Technicians, Postdocs, senior scientists, Professors, etc. to take part in our program.
Abstract submission is possible from Monday, 5th of May on and closes Friday, 13th of June at 11pm CEST.

Formats
In our Data Science Symposium we offer different types of contributions:
Talks are the traditional format of presenting work at a conference. Talks at DSS2025 have a length of 15 minutes (including time for Q&A and discussion) to be divided between the presentation (minimum 10 minutes) and Q&A and discussion (minimum 2 minutes). If your talk is accepted, you will be notified about the exact length of the talk.
Posters are used to present an overview of an idea, a project, a collaboration, etc. in compact form. Posters have to be in portrait orientation and maximally up to A0 size (max. height: 1189 mm; max. width: 841mm).
Digital Posters/Demos are a combination of a talk and a presentation. We offer large touch screens (size of a landscape A0 poster) that you can connect to your own personal laptop. You can then show a presentation of any other software on this screen during our poster session. To use them as touch screen, your laptop needs an HDMI and USB-A port.
Collaboration Coffee is a prepared social event to network with the other DSS2025 participants on a certain topic. We offer dedicated rooms equipped with coffee(!), beamers and flipcharts that you can use to collaborate and discuss your topic. You can reserve up to two possible slots for the coffee (each 1 hour), one before the symposium begins, at 11am, and one after the symposium ends, at 1pm.
Booths are limited to large Helmholtz-wide initiatives that want to present their work and get in touch with the participants of the DSS2025. Booths will be up during the entire conference, so you are expected to always have one person at the booth during coffee and lunch breaks. Please indicate in the additional comments to your submission whether you need extra material, and how much space you need. We will get in touch with you about the details upon acceptance.
